James Brown's Assets To Be Auctioned Off

Sunday, April 6, 2008

As per judge's orders, hundreds of James Brown's possessions will be auctioned off later this year.

According to the Augusta Chronicles, a total of 394 items, including clothes, cars and music will be sold by the New York auction house Christie's on August 1st. The items were chosen by court-appointed estate representatives.

The auction has met opposition from the late singer's children and his disputed fourth wife, Tami Rae Hynie Brown who claims some of the items are hers.

In February, a judge ordered that Brown's possessions and homes be auctioned off in order to pay growing legal fees and unpaid estate taxes. Court records show, the singer's estate is in serious financial trouble, as $1.6 million is needed to pay just this year's bills.

Last week in Aiken County, the estate attorneys filed the final list of auction items. A tax appraisal performed by Christie's shows almost $1.5 million in assets are at Brown's Beech Island home.

Though heirs to James Brown were asked to submit a list of items they wanted held back, a letter from estate reps to the family states that there has been an excessive number of requests that "do not comply with the Court's order."

Attorneys of the five children that have filed objections are claiming in court papers that some items can't be sold individually and some can't be found in the home.
