BREAKING: Max B Found Guilty In 2006 Murder Case, "[He] Took His Verdict Like A Man"
Former Byrd Gang associate Charles "Max B" Wingate has reportedly been found guilty on multiple felony murder conspiracy charges stemming from a fatal 2006 robbery.
Max B's verdict was announced just moments ago in the Bergen County Court House. He along with his brother were found guilty of 9 out of 11 counts. Max B was detained immediately. His sentencing date is set for July 30, 2009. Witnesses state Max B kept his head up and "took his verdict like a man". He did not break down once and remained strong through the entire verdict. His attorney plans to appeal the verdict. (Hip Hop Stan)
Max previously spoke on his legal case and prepared for his trial earlier this year.
"I'm just gonna leave it up to God and my lawyer Gerald Saluti, you know," he said in an interview. "Everything will work out. I'm just gonna let him do his job. I'm here on time. I'm at every court appearance, you know, I'm just here. People stay strong for me. Keep the support up." (Max B TV)
It was Max' former girlfriend who accepted a plea deal and implicated him in a fatal robbery.
Gina Conway and two others were charged with murder after a botched robbery at the Holiday Inn on Route 4 ended in the shooting death of one of the victims in September 2006. Conway met David Taylor and Allan "Jay" Plowden and told her boyfriend that the two men drove flashy cars and carried a lot of cash. The boyfriend, Charly "Max B" Wingate then recruited an associate to rob Taylor and Plowden, prosecutors said. (North Jersey News)
Max's laywer, Gerald Saluti, previously spoke with SOHH about Max's trial.
"It doesn't hurt his case in the least bit. You're talking about a person facing anywhere from 30 years to life basically attempting to snitch against Max and Kelvin Leerdam," Saluti said. "It is our position that Max B will be completely vindicated after the trial, which I think will be starting in April -- I relish the opportunity to cross examine Gina Conway." (SOHH)

Drake Involved In “One Of The Biggest Bidding Wars Ever,” Allegedly Offered $2 Mil

Toronto MC Drake, arguably the most talked about up-and-coming artist since Kanye West and 50 Cent, is involved in a serious bidding war between at least three major labels according to Billboard.
As XXLMag.com reported last month, Drake is close to signing a deal, but has yet to sign on the dotted line. Billboard has learned that Drizzy will most likely go to Universal, due to the label’s relationship with his crew Young Money. At the same time, this has not deterred other labels from baiting the So Far Gone rapper, whose mixtape single “Best I Ever Had” is receiving serious radio airplay. In fact sources tell Billboard that three majors are in possibly “one of the biggest bidding wars ever.” It is rumored that an undisclosed company has offered Drizzy $2 million to join their ranks.
In addition, Warner Music Group CEO Lyor Cohen and Chief Operating Officer Julie Greenwald made a notable appearance at Drake’s New York City concert last week, showing Atlantic’s interest in the former Degrassi actor.
Rumors hit the net last month that Drake had already signed to Universal. At the time his manager Gee Roberson of Hip-Hop Since 1978, whose clients include Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy and Just Blaze, denied the claims. “Drake isn’t signed to Universal Motown,” Roberson told XXL. “He’s currently in the final negotiations of his deal.”
Freeway To Join Cash Money Records

In an interview with RapRadar.com [read full interview here], Philadelphia rapper Freeway [click to read] confirmed that he will be joining Cash Money Records, the label that is home to rappers Baby, Lil Wayne, and more.
“Man, I don’t know how that got out there like that! Like, what’s going down is I’m 'bout to put out this album, called The Stimulus Package,” Freeway told Rap Radar. “It’s with Jake One [click to watch]. Jake One producing the whole album. I was in Miami f**king with Baby and them, and me and Baby got a song on the album that’s called ‘Follow My Moves.’ I been f**king with Cash Money. You know, me and Wayne did a joint for the last album, but we couldn’t get the s**t cleared in time and all that. We just throwing around some ideas. And I’m launching a label, Free Money, so what better home for it.”
Freeway's addition to Cash Money will in turn result in the rappers departure from Jay Z’s Roc-A-Fella Records where Freeway was signed for several years.
When asked how he was approached regarding the Cash Money deal Freeway explained that the initial conversation stemmed from a chance encounter at the mall.
“I seen Baby in a mall,” said Freeway. “I seen him in Louis Vuitton and we was busting it up. And my man Ceelo, he worked with Baby, so he really basically connected us like that. But, right now everything is still in preliminary.”
In the interview Freeway also spoke on his feelings towards Def Jam and Roc-A-Fella, Jay-Z, and what the future holds for the Philadelphia rapper.
Most recently Freeway released Philadelphia Freeway 2 [click to read], his third studio album, on May 19.
Chamilliionaire Addresses Retirement Rumors

Rumors have circulated around the internet lately regarding Chamillionaire and a retirement from music. Tuesday he did a live chat discussing his next career move and at the conclusion of the live chat led fans to believe that he was retiring. Chamillionaire today released a statement to address his fans about the rumors.
Several days ago, I did a live broadcast from my site, Chamillionaire.com, to let fans know where I am right now and what my intentions are musically for the future. Instead of clearing things up, the broadcast unintentionally spawned rumors of my retirement from music. Since then, I have been bombarded with emails and phone calls regarding my so-called retirement and the reasons behind me not dropping the promised "Venom" album
.
It was definitely not my intention to mislead anyone into thinking that I plan to completely retire from music. I love making music and will continue to do so. What I am retiring is the "Mixtape Messiah" part of my career. This means no more jacking beats and no more underground mixtapes. I have been making and putting them out for over a decade and I feel like it is time to step to another level. The upcoming installment of the "Mixtape Messiah" series, "Mixtape Messiah 7", will be the final one. Moving forward, a large majority of the music I release will be on original beats.
Additionally, even though I don’t plan on releasing any of the original material that I had wanted to call "Venom", I will definitely be releasing a third Chamillionaire album with Universal. I am confident that my true fans will have plenty of fresh, new music to be as excited about as I am and I look forward to supplying their demand for new music.
I hope that my fans will understand that over time, you grow as a person and this means you will evolve as an artist. The experiences that you encounter throughout your life all contribute to those changes and that is bound to affect the music an artist feels like making at any given time. I love that my fans feel so deeply about the work I have done in the mixtape scene or the "Get Ya Mind Correct" era of my career, but at this time I want to focus 100% of my studio time on perfecting the commercial music I will release in the future.
Thanks for understanding.
Chamillionaire

Eminem's comeback album Relapse will reportedly lose its spot as the number one album in the country next week despite estimated sales of over 150,000 copies going into his third week.
Relapse, which went gold its first week, will reportedly have a combined total of over 950,000 sold discs after 21 days in stores.
The MTV MovieAwards served as a driver for Kings of Leon's increase and the continued strong sales ofEminem . Here are our projections going into the weekend: Dave Matthews Band (RCA/RMG) 385-400k, Eminem (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) 155-165k, 311 (Volcano/JLG) 60-70k, Taking Back Sunday (WB) 50-60k and Lady GaGa (Interscope) 50-55k. (Hits Daily Double)
After just two weeks, the rapper's fifth solo disc sold more than 800,000 copies.
Grammy-winning rapper Eminem's Relapse maintains its chart dominance holding on to No. 1 for the second straight week. According to Nielsen Soundscan, the rapper's comeback album scanned 211,000 copies making his fifth solo release's combined total rest at 820,400 sold records. (SOHH Sales Wrap)

Jay-Z was the #152 album-selling act of the '90s. (Yahoo News)
Despite currently having the biggest debut of 2009, Em recently said his main focus was on attaining the fans' respect.
"I mean, record sales to me, honestly, since the beginning of my career I've always said they're not as important to me as the respect and things like that," Em explained in an interview last month. "I would just rather rap and get respect from the fans and my peers and things like that. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to sell any records, but at the same time it's not my main priority." Drake Threatens Legal Action Over iTunes Album, "This Is A Straight Bootleg & Scandal"

Rap newcomer Drake is reportedly seeking legal action after an unauthorized compilation album featuring his music was released for sale via iTunes late last month.
The retail project contains various cuts from his popular mixtape So Far Gone.
An unauthorized album called The Girls Love Drake, which features selections from the Toronto rapper's mixtape and other tracks, was released May 28th by a label called Canadian Money Entertainment and distributed by the Independent Online Distribution Alliance (IODA) oniTunes , Rhapsody and Amazon. Drake's camp, which is still trying to clear the samples on So Far Gone and his two other mixtapes in hopes of selling them in stores, says it didn't authorize the release. If it hadn't been disqualified on the grounds that it wasn't confirmed as being an official album, The Girls Love Drake would have debuted this week at No. 101 on the Billboard 200, No. 16 on the Digital Albums chart and No. 1 on the Heatseekers tally. (Billboard)
Drake's manager, Al Branch, has addressed the album's national release.
"This is a straight bootleg, a scandal. We are behind promoting records at radio, but haven't sold it," Branch said in a statement. "iTunes position is that they are a store and they stock everything. They have a waiver and as long as people sign it and are responsible for the product they submit, then they go for it." (Statement)
Aside from the unauthorized release, Drake recently spoke on possibly releasing his debut album independently.
"A lot of people argue about my buzz, 'Oh it's just the Internet buzz' or 'Oh it's not real, it can't materialize,' so I think if I did put out an album with no label, I think I could really prove a point which is the changing of a generation because we don't have the same marketing tools Roc-A-Fella used years ago, that Master P used to sell albums," Drake said in an interview. "We don't have those tools, the game has changed. I feel like if I sign to a label and go platinum the first week, they'll be like 'Oh, it was the label push,' but if I did it without, people might say this is really changing, the Internet is a powerful tool. And when you use it the right way, you can make magic happen. I really think it would be legendary, I don't know how possible it is, because there's different things you have to consider like distribution, marketing budget and what not. But we have a pretty strong team so I'ma see if we can make it happen." (Semtex TV)
In addition to his new album, the rapper is reportedly hitting the road alongside Lil Wayne next month.
We have learned that as of right now it is only LilWayne and Drake on the tour, no word on Jay-Z and Young Jeezy who were rumored to be joining as well. We also learned that the tour will begin in July this summer. No dates and venues have been announced but we can expect those soon. This information has been confirmed by Wayne's manager Cortez Bryant. We will be keeping you up-to-date on any news regarding the tour, as well as posting dates as they become available. Keep checking back. (New Lil Wayne)
A representative from Canadian Money Entertainment has said the mixtape's original intent was to popularize the rapper within the United States.
